Survey and assessment of standing timber and biodiversity values.

Specifications

  • Client: MWA Environmental
  • Scope:

Survey and assessment of standing timber and biodiversity values of a 2,500 ha native forest property in south-east Queensland to assess standing timber volumes, value and forest biocondition. The client sought to understand the timber, carbon and biodiversity values of the property based on its potential for continued harvesting management or reservation for long-term conservation. Execution of this project required a sound understanding of a number of regulatory provisions including the Vegetation Management Act and the Sustainable Planning Act.

  • Challenge:

The landowner required a rapid evaluation of forest resource assets and biodiversity values.

  • Solution:

Verterra developed a stratified random sampling methodology, database and analysis program that projected current timber capital and future wood flows.

  • Benefit to Client:

The project provided the client with a stocktake of timber, environmental and carbon values to support evaluation of market options in preparation for sale of the property, and to evaluate the worth of purchase offers.
