Theoretical comparison of effective water availability between rainfed and irrigated plantations

Specifications

  • Client: Integrated Land Management
  • Scope:

Comparison of the effective water availability between irrigated and rain-fed plantations involving:

    • specification of a model for plantation water balance
    • estimation of parameters for water balance components
    • calculation of overall water-use efficiency
  • Benefit to Client:

This project provided the client with the basis to reliably estimate productivity from irrigated plantations to support an investment decision.  The comparison identified that irrigated plantations can provide higher productivity per unit water input due to capacity to match water supply to plant water use demand.

  • Market Sector: Renewable resources - agriculture, grazing and forestry
  • Capabilities:
    • Forest and fodder crops
    • General land, water and vegetation technical services
