Erosion and Sediment Control Plan – Maleny Irrigated Forest Project

Erosion and Sediment Control Plan – Maleny Irrigated Forest Project

Specifications

  • Client: Unitywater
  • Scope:

Verterra undertook remediation of 11 landslips of varying size acorns an area of 19 ha developed for beneficial use of effluent by irrigation to a constructed rainforest. The project required a solution that addressed the underlying cause of the landslips to ensure their continuing stability post irrigation development.

  • Challenge:

Clearing of hillsides for dairying had led to development of multiple land slips of varying severity requiring remediation prior to irrigation development.

  • Solution:

Verterra applied a practical understanding of local site factors to design an approach to remediation of landslips involving a combination of water interception and diversion that addressed the underlying cause, and provides a robust remediation outcome that has successfully withstood increased water inputs from irrigation development.

  • Benefit to Client:

Verterra’s solution to remediation and stabilisation of land slips provided the client with a cost-effective solution to site remediation and satisfaction of their requirements for responsible land management, and minimisation of sediment export to an important water supply catchment.
