Verterra is an ecological engineering company working across mining and energy, agriculture, water, forestry, natural resource management and natural capital markets. We combine science, engineering, and digital technology to solve complex environmental challenges and balance the needs of society with those of natural ecosystems.
As our work grows, we are expanding our digital capability to develop tools, workflows, and AI-enabled systems that support our consulting teams and productised environmental solutions.
We are seeking an early-career developer who wants to apply software, data, and AI skills to real-world environmental challenges.
This role offers the opportunity to work alongside scientists, engineers, and environmental specialists while developing practical digital tools that support projects across land, water, vegetation, and ecological systems.
About the Role
The Product Codification Developer supports the development of Verterra’s digital tools, automation systems, and AI-enabled workflows and analytics.
You will help build practical, scalable solutions that support environmental data analysis, project delivery, and new productised services.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving real-world problems with software and who wants to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
Software & Product Development
Assist in designing, building, testing, and improving internal tools and digital products.
Develop software solutions using Python and other relevant languages.
Contribute to scalable systems supporting environmental data analysis and technical workflows.
Maintain documentation and support ongoing refinement of digital systems.
Automation, Data & AI
Develop automated workflows for data processing, analysis, and reporting.
Support implementation of machine learning and AI frameworks to improve technical workflows.
Assist in embedding AI capability into practical business and project applications.
Geospatial & Environmental Data
Support development using geospatial and environmental datasets.
Work with spatial, remote sensing, and field-collected data.
Help develop tools that generate insights for environmental and land management projects.
Cloud & Deployment
Assist with deployment and testing of solutions in cloud environments.
Contribute to systems using platforms such as Azure ML, Vertex AI, and Kubeflow.
Support best practices in version control, testing, record keeping and system performance.
Innovation
Contribute ideas and prototypes that enhance Verterra’s digital capability.
Stay current with developments in software engineering, AI, and data science.

About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys learning quickly, solving problems, and building practical tools.
You will likely have:
1+ years experience in software development, data development, or a related technical role
Strong Python programming skills
Sound knowledge of latest AI / machine learning frameworks and tools
Interest in applying technology to real-world environmental problems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
Nice to Have
Experience with GIS or spatial data
Familiarity with environmental, geospatial, or scientific datasets
