Rockhampton Regional Council engaged Verterra to provide agribusiness consultancy services and deliver Agricultural Farm Scale Reports and Business Plans for 10 landholders. 

As part of the Rookwood Weir water release tendering process, Verterra worked closely with landholders to prepare Agriculture Development plans and Business plans to assist landholders evaluate their development options and enable them to bid for new water allocations.   

Key consulting advice included: soils, plant-water interaction, agribusiness, cropping and irrigation, and financial analysis of costs and returns.

The project involved considerable landholder engagement and included: 

  • Site visits; 

  • Review of previous agronomic assessments and of soil types on landholder properties; 

  • Advice on potential agribusiness opportunities, water/cropping requirements for proposed crops, and environmental compliance relating to potential production; 

  • Information and irrigation methods and concept design for preferred irrigation options (where applicable); 

  • Financial modelling and estimate of capital and operational investment required; and
