Who we work with.
We provide ecological engineering solutions across all land and water, management sectors of the economy.
We enjoy working collaboratively with all organisations and individuals on finding novel solutions to difficult environmental problems that often require an out of the box perspective, not constrained by pre-conceived ideas, and thinking at the system level.
This generally involves and integrated approach to working with soils, vegetation, water and landscapes, taking into account the interactions that allow us to turn risk into value.
An outline of the scope of holistic solutions we provide across the sectors we work in is provided below.
Agriculture & Grazing
We provide actionable insights that support improved farm planning and management to deliver improved productivity, sustainability and opportunities for diversified income through environmental credits.
Through a suite of precision agriculture tools including soil surveying, multi-spectral mapping plus soil sampling, we gain site-specific knowledge of soil and crop variation to inform new cropping and irrigation designs, or site-specific management requirements to optimise existing cropping and horticultural operations.

Forestry & Bioenergy
From our origins in forestry, we continue to provide leading edge technical consulting and land, property and estate management services to our clients that are key to the supply of renewable fibre resources.
We differentiate ourselves from our competitors in this sector through our highly developed systems-based approach to quality, safety environment and risk management, combined with a high level of technical expertise and practical experience.

Utilities & Government
Verterra provides a wide range of research, advisory, consulting, and operational services to utilities, the water industry, local, state and federal government.
We are particularly focused on collaborating with our clients on bespoke solutions to realising the circular economy benefits of beneficially reusing effluent and biosolids.
Other projects include waste to energy, managing urban heat island effects, urban forest management, habitat restoration and carbon sequestration.
While our services vary, they all involve integrated management of vegetation, soil, water and landscapes. Applications range from production systems to environmental restoration.
As with our work across other sectors, our services across utilities and government involve bringing the best available science to solve challenging, often bespoke issues and often result in novel applications that help advance new knowledge in environmental management.

Infrastructure, Industry & Urban Development
Green infrastructure is well demonstrated to improve the liveability of cities and quality of life and well being of residents. In addition, it can provide greater resilience to extreme environmental and climatic events, prevent pollution entering waterways and beneficially recycle nutrients and water from industrial activities. Verterra’s expertise in vegetation, soil, water and integrated landscape management allow us to apply our skills to a wide variety of novel solutions for the built environment.

Ecosystem Services
Essential for human well-being and economic development, Ecosystem Services provide a wide range of benefits that support our daily lives, economies, and overall quality of life. However, human activities can have negative impacts on ecosystems and subsequently reduce the provision of these valuable, sometimes essential services. By recognising the importance of ecosystem services, Verterra works with clients to ensure sustainable agriculture and land management is coupled with conservation efforts.
Verterra brings together a unique blend of skills that enable us to deliver customised solutions specific to the needs of each client. Our approach is based on a deep understanding of ecosystem functions and the services they provide. We use science-based tools and technologies to design and implement solutions that are effective, efficient, and sustainable.
