Namoi Cotton engaged Verterra to undertake a desktop review of potential cotton production areas in Northern Queensland.

To assess the overall scheme potential of a cotton gin, Namoi Cotton sought clarification on a number of aspects to assist in identifying a preferred potential location for the new cotton gin to service the region.  

Verterra undertook spatial analysis based on crop requirements and site factors influencing productivity, and developed a multi-criteria framework to facilitate the transparent assessment of the relative merits of each potential production areas which will assist Namoi Cotton in their own further analysis and decision making. 

Deliverables included a Multi-Criteria Analysis report (including maps). The Scope included soil suitability (and any limitations) to support irrigated cotton production, water availability and reliability, climatic suitability and potential climate change impacts of the identified potential production areas, and vegetation/clearing legislation in terms of risk and approaches to working through the process.
